WHO statement on Hantavirus: Situation remains stable

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has provided an update on the latest situation regarding the hantavirus, noting that no new cases have been recorded for three weeks. Ghebreyesus announced that the situation regarding the virus remains stable.
elchi reports that Ghebreyesus shared information on the social media account of a US-based company X regarding hantavirus cases detected on the passenger ship “MV Hondius,” which sails under the Dutch flag.
Stating that the number of cases reported to the WHO remains at 13, Ghebreyesus said: “No new cases have been recorded for about 3 weeks. The death toll remains at 3, and no new deaths have been recorded for over a month.”
Ghebreyesus noted that the overall situation regarding the hantavirus remains stable.
Hantavirus
It is known that the hantavirus is primarily transmitted by rodents.
When breathing air contaminated with dried rodent feces, urine, and saliva, and sometimes through rodent bites or scratches, the virus causes symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and muscle pain.
The disease, which can also cause respiratory failure, can sometimes manifest as internal bleeding and kidney failure.
