The US is discussing the implementation of a paid passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of American warships.
“Elchi” reports that “Politico” newspaper writes about this, citing sources.
It is noted that against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran, the White House is considering options that might interest shipowners and insurance companies in the Strait of Hormuz route. Specifically, the creation of a system called “VIP-passage” is being discussed — the possibility of an accelerated passage through the strait in exchange for a monetary reward (additional payment) and with the escort of US warships.
Journalists of the publication emphasize that a final decision has not yet been made.
Analytical company “Kpler” reports that there are approximately 500 ships in the Persian Gulf at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, 220 of which are oil tankers. All of them are waiting for a safe passage through the strait.
