In response to sanctions previously imposed by Canada, Russia is banning 103 citizens of that country, including ministers and members of parliament, from entering Russia.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a declaration by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
“As a countermeasure to the Mark Carney cabinet’s sanctions against Russia, the entry into the Russian Federation is permanently banned for 103 Canadian citizens whose activities are primarily aimed at denigrating our country’s constitutional order and foreign policy course in the Canadian parliament, as well as those who have complied with the directive to confiscate sovereign Russian state assets,” the MFA stated.
This list specifically includes 19 members of the Canadian Senate, as well as 11 members of the House of Commons, all of whom hold positions in the country’s Cabinet of Ministers. Among them are Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson, Minister of Employment and Social Development Patty Hajdu, Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada Jennie Carignan, former Canadian Ambassador to Russia and Ukraine Chris Westdal, Executive Director of the non-governmental organization ‘United Nations Watch’ Hillel Neuer, and others.
In addition, 5 secretaries of state, 5 parliamentary secretaries, and 60 members of parliament without portfolios have been subjected to the restrictions.
It should be noted that Canada had previously included 7 individuals and 34 legal entities in its sanctions list against Russia.
