Today, within the framework of his official visit to Tokyo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with members of the Japan-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship League.

It was stated that during the meeting, a broad exchange of views took place regarding the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-Japan relations. In this context, the importance of political consultations and economic cooperation commission mechanisms, mutual visits, and contacts at various levels between the two countries was noted in terms of further strengthening bilateral relations.
It was emphasized that Japan was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of our country, and that the first official visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Japan in 1998 was an important milestone in the development of Azerbaijan-Japan relations, providing a strong impetus for the expansion of political and economic cooperation.
Touching upon the role of Azerbaijan-Japan inter-parliamentary cooperation, the importance of the Azerbaijan-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Working Group operating in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Japan-Azerbaijan Friendship League existing in the Japanese Parliament was highlighted in this direction.
Within the framework of the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on cooperation relations in political, economic, humanitarian, traditional and renewable energy, tourism, education, and other fields.
It was recalled that Japan’s leading companies, ITOCHU and INPEX, have played an important role in Azerbaijan’s energy sector, particularly in the implementation of oil and gas projects, and are among our country’s reliable partners.
Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information to the other side about the history of past occupation and conflict, the situation in the post-conflict period, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the steps taken by our country, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the purposeful measures taken in the fight against the mine threat.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
