CENTCOM’s “counter-attack” statement regarding Iran
CENTCOM announced that it had launched counter-attacks against Iran in response to the downing of the US Apache helicopter.
In its statement, the Command said, “In response to the downing of a US military Apache helicopter yesterday, CENTCOM, under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief (Donald Trump), conducted legitimate self-defense strikes against Iran today at 5:00 PM (US Eastern Time). This operation is a proportionate response to Iran’s unprovoked aggression.”
US President Donald Trump stated in a post on his social media account that a US military Apache helicopter patrolling the Strait of Hormuz was shot down by Iran, adding that “the US is obligated to respond to this attack.”
In a brief telephone statement to the Wall Street Journal, President Trump said that the downing of the Apache helicopter was “not a big deal.” Trump stated, “It’s not that big of a deal. The pilots are fine.”
On the other hand, US officials speaking to America’s CBS News channel stated that the helicopter pilots were rescued by a US military naval drone. Another official speaking to Axios stated that the incident occurred as a result of an Iranian drone colliding with the Apache helicopter, but they do not yet know if it was intentional.
