For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

In the final of the four rounds, 142 countries voted for Kyrgyzstan, while the Philippines received only 49 votes.

Starting January 1, 2027, Austria, Zimbabwe, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago will also join the Security Council as non-permanent members. They will replace Greece, Denmark, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia, whose terms in the council expire on December 31, 2026.
