Construction of the Mehdiabad–Baksol–Ziya Bunyadov Avenue highway is planned

Within the framework of the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030”, the implementation of strategically important projects continues with the aim of optimizing the capital’s road transport network and eliminating congestion.

This was reported to elchi by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency.

As is known, against the backdrop of rapid settlement and demand, vehicles moving from Mehdiabad, Binagadi, and surrounding areas toward the city center cause serious loads on the existing infrastructure. Currently, drivers coming from this direction are mainly forced to enter the Binagadi highway, Azadlig Avenue, Baku–Sumgayit highway, Ziya Bunyadov Avenue, and other city roads. These routes create daily heavy traffic jams, especially on the narrow sections of the Binagadi highway and at the intersections of Azadlig Avenue and Ziya Bunyadov Avenue.

Also, the mentioned vehicles pass through Mehdiabad, Binagadi, and surrounding areas, and from there, they are forced to move through the traffic jams existing on the Binagadi highway, Azadlig Avenue, Baku–Sumgayit highway, Ziya Bunyadov Avenue, and other nearby areas.

In order to fundamentally solve the existing problem, the construction of a new Mehdiabad–Baksol–Ziya Bunyadov Avenue highway, which will directly connect the north-western part of Absheron with the eastern and south-eastern directions of the city, and its connection to Heydar Aliyev Avenue is planned. In the future, this road will connect with 8 Noyabr Avenue.

This new large-scale road to be built will start from the Mehdiabad settlement and the Binagadi area and will be connected to the Binagadi highway. As a result of this step, the traffic flow will be distributed more balanced, the daily congestion observed especially along the Binagadi–”20 Yanvar”–Ziya Bunyadov Avenue line will decrease, and many vehicles will move along alternative routes outside these congestions. In general, these implemented infrastructure projects, together with ring roads, will form a network and create more convenient alternative routes.

Currently, there is no direct and uninterrupted road connection from the Azadlig Avenue–Binagadi highway direction to the Binagadi–Novkhani road. Traffic flow moving in this direction is forced to move along a narrow road with many turning maneuvers, which causes both an increase in travel time and additional load on the road network. After the reconstruction works to be carried out on that road, a direct and uninterrupted exit will be provided, as a result of which traffic movement will be simplified, routes will be shortened, and overall traffic efficiency will be increased. Also, the new tram line to be laid from that direction will help passengers move comfortably and safely, and will create an alternative route.

At the same time, the project profile of the new highway to be built provides for the allocation of a special lane for the organization of a tram line in the future, which will create additional opportunities for the development of public transport in the long-term perspective.

Let’s show the convenience that these projects will bring to citizens through real examples.

Passengers moving from the Sumgayit-Khirdalan direction to the “Nariman Narimanov” metro station will be able to move towards Ziya Bunyadov and Heydar Aliyev Avenues without entering the “20 Yanvar” circle and the city center.

Vehicles moving from the Masazir direction will be able to move towards Ahmadli and Hovsan using the newly built Mehdiabad–Baksol–Ziya Bunyadov Avenue road without entering the “20 Yanvar” circle.

Passengers moving from the Pirshagi-Fatmayi-Mehdiabad direction to the southern part of the city will be able to complete this trip by moving to the Mehdiabad-Baksol-Ziya Bunyadov Avenue without entering the Binagadi highway. As a result, the load on the Binagadi highway will be distributed between the two roads. This will lead to a reduction in traffic jams in the mentioned direction.
