Rubio: Russia is unhappy with the strengthening of US relations with South Caucasus countries

Russia views the strengthening of the US presence in the South Caucasus negatively.

elchi reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated this during hearings held at the Capitol.

“I would also like to note, and it seems to me that this is quite well known from open sources, that Russia is by no means pleased with the intensification of our interaction with the countries of the region,” he noted.

According to Rubio, against the backdrop of growing cooperation between Washington and Yerevan, Moscow would prefer the current government in Armenia to lose in the elections.

He emphasized that the US does not intend to infringe upon Armenia’s sovereignty and does not interfere in its foreign policy decisions.

“To be clear: we do not intend to infringe upon Armenia’s sovereignty. We are not asking them not to be friends with other countries. We simply want to have a relationship with them that is not based solely on peace. Peace is important, but it is only the beginning,” Rubio said.
