Speaker of the Milli Majlis addressed the 60th plenary session of the IPA CIS

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova participated in the 60th plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) today, as part of her working visit to Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation.

Addressing the session, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized the Assembly’s important role in developing dialogue and cooperation between our legislative bodies, acting as a platform for discussing a wide range of issues of mutual interest. In her speech, informing the participants about the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum held in Baku, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted that the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum, held in Baku from May 17 to 22, is one of the most influential and global international events dedicated to the sustainable development of cities and urbanization issues. Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that hosting this session in Baku confirms the recognition of Azerbaijan’s ability to unite communities and countries around a common goal. As President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized at the opening of the forum, “Azerbaijan is located between Europe and Asia and has always been and remains a place where East and West meet.”
The Speaker said that the next 24th meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation will be held in June. She also noted the importance of the IPA CIS initiatives aimed at strengthening humanitarian cooperation.
In her speech, touching upon the monitoring activities of the IPA CIS regarding elections, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted the role of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy, Parliamentarism and the Observance of Electoral Rights of Citizens of the IPA CIS in the institutional support of this activity.
Concluding her speech, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis stated that the IPA CIS continues to confidently serve as an effective platform for regular interaction between parliaments today. The Speaker expressed her confidence that joint efforts will continue in the future to further expand and strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Assembly in various directions.
