“You should temporarily avoid red meat and cheese, and it is best to reduce animal fats to 20-25% of your daily calorie intake,” the expert noted.
She also advised against eating dinner three hours before bedtime, as a decrease in basal body temperature is required for peak melatonin synthesis. Zaletova also advised avoiding alcoholic beverages, fresh juices, and sugary carbonated drinks, as ethyl alcohol and large amounts of sugar will increase brain dehydration. Clinically, this can manifest as headaches, trembling legs, and a complete loss of energy, she concluded.
Nutritionist and endocrinologist Anton Polyakov had previously stated that it is important to remove certain foods and drinks from your diet in hot weather, including alcoholic beverages that increase dehydration.
He also noted that one should avoid coffee and tea for the same reason. He added that sweet drinks, juices, carbonated drinks, and fruit drinks can falsely increase thirst. The doctor explained that the increased need for water will disrupt the appetite control system. In addition, sweet drinks can cause blood sugar spikes.
