The Investigative Committee of Armenia has launched a criminal case against Andranik Tevanyan, a parliamentary candidate from the “Prosperous Armenia” party, on charges of high treason and espionage.
“Elchi” reports that this is stated in a declaration released by the committee on the “Facebook” social network.
According to the agency’s claim, Tevanyan, who was included in the election list of the “Armenia” bloc, was recruited by foreign intelligence services in 2024. It is alleged that he engaged in espionage and transferred information constituting state secrets “in exchange for a reward in a particularly large amount – 622 thousand US dollars.”
It is noted that the transferred information pertained to the proceedings and results of hearings held during a closed, confidential session of parliament in April 2024. Based on the obtained information, the committee has initiated a criminal case under articles of high treason and espionage.
A day earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Tevanyan of high treason.
