Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting to discuss intelligence regarding potential Russian offensive operations in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction. The focus was on the possibility of Russia using the territory of neighboring states, primarily Belarus.
elchi reports that Zelensky wrote about this on his Telegram channel.
“We have analyzed in detail the information from our intelligence services regarding Russia’s plans for offensive operations in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction. We are preparing countermeasures against every possible enemy action—should the Russians truly decide to expand their aggression. Our forces in this direction will be increased.
We are also reviewing the capabilities of our foreign activity. I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to prepare additional diplomatic pressure measures against Belarus, which Russia could use to expand the war. There are also relevant non-public tasks for Ukrainian intelligence services.
As for the Russian directions: we are preparing to expand the geography of our long-range sanctions, which have already proven very effective, and to force Russia to reduce its aggression in a more tangible way. We have also taken into account information about new mobilization steps in Russia—the preparation of an additional 100,000 people. We believe that there is no such potential for covert mobilization in Russia today, so one should expect political decisions from Russia in a different format, particularly steps similar to those recently taken regarding the Transnistrian region of Moldova.
Ukraine will definitely defend itself, and our task now is to strengthen our state so that none of the five scenarios Russia has for expanding the war through the north of Ukraine will work,” Zelensky noted.
