“The meeting in Yerevan was a political show” – Zakharova

“An international meeting was held in Yerevan with the participation of leaders of a number of countries and high-ranking European officials whose foreign policy is mainly aimed at confrontation with Russia.”

“Elchi” reports that Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized the events in detail, characterizing the format of the meeting as a politically charged event with an obvious information and image-forming component.

According to her, what happened in Yerevan was a carefully organized political event accompanied by public speeches, the active participation of Western politicians, media coverage, and symbolic actions, which, in her opinion, aimed to shape a certain foreign policy image for Armenia.

Zakharova stated that such events are not limited to a diplomatic agenda but increasingly take on the character of a “political show,” with the emphasis shifting from practical agreements to demonstrative elements. She noted that Yerevan has witnessed numerous public events, protocol functions, and elements of Western delegation participation that visibly attract attention, including walks and informal public appearances.

In her view, this format is used to strengthen political influence in the information space and to shape a certain perception of ongoing processes.

Zakharova’s statement paid special attention to the political context within Armenia. She emphasized that Yerevan is currently in a pre-election phase, and according to her, this makes the country vulnerable to foreign political influence.

Zakharova stated that the European Union, France, and a number of other Western actors are using such platforms to advance their agendas in the region. She assessed this as an attempt to strengthen political and institutional influence by participating in public international events.
