The Boxing World Cup held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, has concluded.
elchi reports that the Azerbaijan national team achieved a historic result in the competition, which featured 400 athletes from 49 countries. For the first time, our team won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal at the World Cup.
In the final, Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) fought against Issam Bensayar (Morocco). Our boxer, who won all 3 rounds, secured a 5:0 (30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27) victory and claimed the gold medal.
Following him, Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) also climbed to the highest step of the podium. He demonstrated his strength against Davit Chaloyan (Armenia) in the decisive match. Defeating his opponent 3:2 (29:28, 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28), Abdullayev secured our team’s third gold medal and ensured the Azerbaijani national anthem was played for the third time in Brazil.
In the first session of the final stage, Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) became the World Cup winner, while Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) had previously secured a bronze medal.
Thus, our men’s national team, having won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal, finished the World Cup in second place in the team standings. Our team, which participated in the competition with 6 male boxers, was surpassed by the hosts only due to the silver medal count.
It should be noted that our boxers will return to their homeland on April 29.
