Ballet master, People’s Artist, and individual scholarship holder of the President, Maqsud Mammadov, has passed away at the age of 97.
“Elchi” reports that the Ministry of Culture has released information regarding this.
It should be noted that Maqsud Davud oglu Mammadov was born on May 30, 1929, in Ganja. He began practicing dance at an early age. He had been working at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater since 1951. Together with his wife, People’s Artist Rafiga Akhundova, he choreographed ballets such as Tofig Bakikhanov’s “Caspian Ballad”, Faraj Garayev’s “Shadows of Gobustan” and “Kaleidoscope”, Rauf Hajiyev’s “Azerbaijan Suite”, Nazim Aliverdibeyov’s “Mugham”, and Agshin Alizadeh’s “Babek”.
For his services to the development of national culture, Maqsud Mammadov was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Artist” in 1955 and “People’s Artist” in 1970. The artist, who was awarded the “Shohrat” Order in 2019, had been an individual scholarship holder of the President since 2002.
