American technology giant “Microsoft” is offering its employees worldwide the opportunity to leave the company voluntarily, as announced by the company’s human resources chief on Monday.
elchi reports that in an internal memo sent to employees, Amy Coleman described the “Voluntary Exit Offer” program as an important part of how we approach transformation – creating more flexibility and more opportunities to shape employees’ next professional chapter, where possible.
The offer will be available to employees in certain teams at level 70 or below in the US, Canada, India, and the UK – this category may include some managers.
“This is a time-limited, voluntary program; it offers individuals who meet the relevant criteria the opportunity to leave Microsoft with financial support and career planning resources,” the document states.
It is also reported that in the coming hours, employees who meet the program’s criteria will be sent an email containing a link reflecting the terms offered to them.
According to the information, approximately 60,000 people are eligible to participate in this program.
In July, “Microsoft” announced it was cutting approximately 4,800 jobs – about 2.1% of the company’s global workforce at the time – as it aims to reorient its business and reduce costs in an era where artificial intelligence is gaining increasing importance. These layoffs primarily affected the company’s commercial division and its Xbox gaming business.
This year, “Microsoft” also offered some of its employees the opportunity to take early retirement.
According to the company, more than 30% of employees eligible for the early retirement program have accepted the offer; the corporation has stated that it will continue to explore similar approaches.
