American entrepreneur Elon Musk has admitted that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies could pose an existential threat to humanity.
elchi reports that he said this on a podcast hosted by American writer and journalist Walter Isaacson.
“I think there is a non-zero chance that it could be an existential threat. But I can’t do anything to stop it. So, I’ve concluded that I have two options: be a participant or be an observer. I think being a participant is more interesting,” Musk said.
On September 12, Dario Amodei, CEO of the American technology company “Anthropic,” published an article calling for a slowdown in the development of advanced artificial intelligence models. He expressed the idea that by slowing down the development of advanced technologies, AI companies could gain an extra year or two before models reach a critical stage of development and avoid serious miscalculations. Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman agreed with this forecast.
US President Donald Trump later stated that he was not concerned that the development of artificial intelligence could pose a threat to the existence of humanity. He later emphasized that he considered it most important to ensure the US’s superiority over China and other countries in these developments.
