The role and contribution of CICA in strengthening the multilateral cooperation networks at the heart of the UN is now more important than ever.
elchi reports that UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Kaha Imnadze, said this at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
He stated that connectivity is of great importance in expanding cooperation in the CICA region:
“Connectivity is not just about infrastructure. Transport corridors, railway routes, energy connections, and digital networks can serve as a platform for dialogue and better understanding based on the principles of economic integration, openness, and mutual benefit.”
Imnadze noted that the UN has long-term relations with CICA:
“In this context, I would like to express my gratitude for the close cooperation with the CICA Secretariat and member states within COMSEC, the early warning network on terrorism for Central Asia, a joint initiative of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office.”
