The US military has issued a statement in response to claims that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz.
elchi reports that the US military has issued a statement in response to claims that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military stated that the claims of Iran controlling the Strait of Hormuz do not reflect the truth: “Control of the Strait of Hormuz is clearly in the hands of the US and its regional partners. US forces assisted partner Gulf countries yesterday in transporting more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.”
Against the backdrop of ongoing military tensions between the US and Iran, the US military has released a new statement regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The CENTCOM statement recalled the remarks of the commander of the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran – who claimed control of the strait and threatened to sink any US warship approaching it – and in response, stated, “Iran’s naval forces commander no longer has a navy.” Emphasizing that the US and its regional allies control the strait, the statement added: “Control of the Strait of Hormuz is clearly in the hands of the US and its regional partners. US forces assisted partner Gulf countries yesterday in transporting more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.”
The IRGC had announced its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Rear Admiral Ali Azmai, a high-ranking commander of the IRGC’s Naval Forces, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under IRGC control, noting: “We are waiting for US warships to approach the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz so that we can sink them.” Claiming that US warships “did not dare” to approach the Strait of Hormuz, Azmai noted that the US aircraft carrier, valued at $13 billion, had moved 700 kilometers away from the strait.
