The 1st Congress of Turkic World Composers will be held in Baku on September 18-20, 2026.
“Elchi” reports that the congress will take place within the framework of the XVIII Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival, organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the ICESCO Baku Regional Office, the Azerbaijan Composers’ Union, and the Azerbaijan National Conservatory.
The congress is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, the 885th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, and the 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi.
According to the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, prominent representatives of the music world from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Turkmenistan will participate in the congress.
The rich program of the congress will include various meetings, scientific discussions, and musical events. Over the course of three days, a series of sessions, an international round table, thematic exhibitions, as well as symphonic, chamber, and traditional music concerts will be held.
One of the main outcomes of the congress will be the establishment of the Turkic Union of Composers (TUC), which will bring together composers, musicologists, performers, and representatives of leading music organizations from the Turkic world.
On September 19, the first official meeting of the Turkic Union of Composers will be held at the headquarters of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. The meeting will include the signing of the Baku Declaration on the establishment of the TUC, as well as a discussion of the draft Charter of the new international professional platform.
The creation of the union will be an important step toward strengthening professional ties between the musical institutions of the Turkic world countries. The preservation and development of the common musical heritage, support for modern schools of composition, promotion of creative exchange, and the promotion of Turkic world music on the international stage will be the main focus.
On September 19, 2026, at 16:00, a press conference will be held at the headquarters of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, dedicated to the results of the 1st Congress of Turkic World Composers, the establishment of the Turkic Union of Composers (TUC), the signing of the Baku Declaration, and the future prospects of the new professional union.
