Lionel Messi, the legend of La Liga representative Barcelona and the Argentina national team, will play his final match for the national team in October.
“Elchi” reports that the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has included the 39-year-old footballer in the squad for the friendly match against Benin, which will take place in Buenos Aires on October 6.
AFA stated that the entire squad of the Argentina national team, which became world champions in 2022, will be invited to this match.
“After discussions with the national team coach Lionel Scaloni, we would like to announce that we have decided to invite the world’s best player, the symbol of our national team, and our captain Lionel Messi to a farewell ceremony he deserves on October 6,” the statement noted.
Messi, who has played 207 matches for the Argentina national team, has scored 125 goals. He announced his retirement from the national team in August.
The Argentina national team, led by Lionel Scaloni, will face Burkina Faso, Benin, and Bolivia in friendly matches during the international break.
