Although the spread of the Ebola virus has slowed down in the most affected districts of the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the epidemic is still far from over.
“Elchi” reports, citing “Reuters”, that the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated this.
“We are starting to see encouraging signs of progress,” he said, warning that the epidemic could still spread, given the high mobility of the population in the region.
According to WHO data, as of September 11, more than 7,000 confirmed cases of Ebola have been recorded in Congo, and more than 3,500 people have died from the virus. The epidemic has already spread to the country’s seventh province.
