Ukraine is prepared to refrain from striking Russian energy and critical facilities, provided that Russia also adheres to this commitment in a reliable and long-term manner.
“Elchi” reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote about this on social media.
“If partners can provide real guarantees that Russia will not strike our energy facilities, critical infrastructure, and food shipments, we are prepared to refrain from striking back in the same way,” he wrote.
Zelensky stated that Ukraine has proposed an agreement to its partners that would allow for halting the destruction of critical infrastructure with Russia.
“This agreement must be reliable and long-term, and have a real impact on people’s lives. It is impossible to allow Russia to take advantage of the reduction in tension regarding gasoline and diesel fuel during its own ‘elections’ and then break the agreement,” the Ukrainian President noted.
He emphasized that de-escalation regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace.
“The war must be ended. A de-escalation step regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace. We are waiting for concrete steps from our partners,” Zelensky wrote.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement to mutually refrain from striking energy facilities.
