The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) is expanding measures to increase passenger transport capacity in Baku in connection with the start of the academic season. As a result, starting tomorrow, the number of buses deployed on routes in the capital will reach a record high of 2,530.
According to information provided to “Elchi” by AYNA, this figure is the highest in recent years.
For instance, in September 2022, 1,780 buses were in operation for passenger transport in Baku. This number rose to 2,011 in 2023, 2,180 in 2024, and 2,340 in 2025. Thus, in just 5 years, the number of buses deployed on routes in the capital has increased by 750 units, or 42%.
It was stated that this year, for the first time, the operation of 2,530 buses simultaneously on Baku routes is being ensured. Compared to last year, this represents an increase of nearly 200 buses.
It was noted that the increase in the number of buses is particularly significant on the eve of the academic season, when passenger demand rises: “In addition, within the framework of the metro line separation project, 8 express lines have been organized and 28 regular lines have been strengthened over the last month.
Work on updating the bus fleet in terms of both quantity and quality will continue until the end of the year. This year, buses on 29 routes have been replaced with newer and more modern ones. With the introduction of additional buses, the opportunities to provide passengers with more comfortable, safe, and high-quality public transport services will be expanded.
This year, 308 buses have been brought in by private and state enterprises. The increase in the number of buses is ongoing.”
