Fire at a school in Congo: 17 people died

At least 17 people, including children, have died as a result of a fire at a school in the city of Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to elchi, an eyewitness told Reuters that he helped load the bodies of 17 men and children into an ambulance. One medical center reported that 10 people had died, while another hospital stated that more than 50 students had been admitted, 14 of whom had passed away.

Bukavu has been under the control of Rwanda-backed AFC/M23 rebels since last year. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Alliance coordinator Corneille Nangaa told Reuters that the exact number of deaths has not yet been determined, but according to his assessment, the figure is around 10 people.
