“Elchi” reports that Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Hasanov stated this during the panel titled “From COP29 to Climate Week: A Digital Action Path for a ‘Green World’” held within the framework of “Baku Climate Week 2026” (BCAW 2026).
He noted that through satellites, remote sensing, and geographic information systems, drought, desertification, and water resources are being monitored in Azerbaijan, and water levels and quality in rivers are being tracked.
The Deputy Minister mentioned that work is also underway to reduce the environmental impact in the telecommunications sector: “The installation of solar-powered base stations operating on renewable energy has begun. These stations use renewable energy for more than 60 percent of their operating time. In Karabakh alone, the number of such stations exceeds 75. Azerbaijan’s experience shows that digital action yields measurable results. This leads to fewer paper documents, lower energy consumption, forest conservation, and better environmental outcomes.”
