On September 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the newly appointed United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva.

Touching upon the relations between our country and the UN, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has hosted large-scale UN events such as COP29 and the World Urban Forum, and noted that the Intercultural Dialogue Forum will be organized this year in cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan is an important partner of the UN and, as a “middle power” state, hosts prestigious events of this organization, Vladanka Andreeva recalled the organization of COP and the World Urban Forum in Baku in this regard. She noted that the 4th International Mine Action Conference on the theme “Humanitarian Mine Action for Sustainable Development” is being held in Baku today, and mentioned that the UN Climate Week event will also take place in our country.
Vladanka Andreeva highly appreciated the support provided by Azerbaijan to the activities of the relevant UN agencies.
She stated that the UN is ready to support the development program currently being implemented by Azerbaijan with its experience, and in this regard, touched upon the importance of the large-scale work carried out in the post-conflict conditions in Karabakh and East Zangezur.
Noting the problem of mines, Vladanka Andreeva said that the UN is ready to support Azerbaijan in this matter and share its experience.
The head of state spoke about the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out in our liberated territories and noted the scale of the mine problem faced by our country. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that despite the fact that this hinders restoration and construction work, Azerbaijan continues its consistent activities in the field of mine action.
Vladanka Andreeva stated that she would visit Karabakh soon and noted that a major event is planned to be held at Karabakh University in connection with UN Day.
During the meeting, environmental issues such as the improvement of the ecological environment of transboundary rivers in the South Caucasus region and the conduct of monitoring in this area, as well as the decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea, were also discussed.
