Approximately 300,000 hectares of liberated territories have been cleared of mines so far.
“Elchi” reports that Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), stated this during his speech at a panel session held at the 4th International Mine Action Conference on the topic “Humanitarian Mine Action for Urban Restoration: Defining Excellence Standards for Safe Settlements.”
It was noted that as a result of the process, 43,000 mines and over 24,000 explosive devices have been destroyed.
“Our annual target is to clear 65,000 hectares of land from mines. Every year, we set specific targets for mine clearance. Last year, we achieved a record by clearing over 1,600,000 hectares. Our target for this year is also 65,000 hectares, and we have already completed approximately 50,000 hectares of this,” said Samir Poladov.
He noted that ANAMA collaborates with various partners. In total, there are over 4,500 employees involved in humanitarian operations:
“Part of our work, alongside clearing areas of mines and returning them to use, consists of conducting awareness-raising activities regarding the potential dangers that mines and explosive devices may pose.”
