Sweden will purchase four defense and intervention frigates from France worth 4.3 billion euros.
“Elchi” reports, citing “Le Monde”, that the relevant contract was signed in Stockholm by Pierre-Eric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of the shipbuilding company “Naval Group”, and Mikael Granholm, Director of the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.
Thus, Sweden has continued its rearmament efforts after joining NATO in 2024. It is noted that the first frigates will be delivered in 2030. The new ships are to be equipped with air defense systems designed to destroy ballistic missiles.
The defense ministries of the two countries also signed a framework agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in operational matters, defense capabilities, and industrial development.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and French President Emmanuel Macron attended the signing ceremony of the documents.
