Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the development of relations with African countries.

According to the information provided to elchi by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stated this during a meeting with Prime Minister of Mozambique Maria Benvinda Levi within the framework of her working visit to Serbia.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the current state and development prospects of relations between the two countries.

Speaking about the importance of cooperation within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis spoke about the work done by Azerbaijan during its 4-year chairmanship of this organization, the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network created on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, and the achievements made during our country’s chairmanship.

The meeting also touched upon the current state of bilateral relations in a number of areas, and an exchange of views was held on the development of mutual relations. Recalling her meeting with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Margarida Talapa, who visited our country in June of this year to participate in the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, the Speaker noted the importance of cooperation and mutual support within the framework of international organizations.

During the conversation, it was noted that there are good opportunities for developing cooperation between parliaments and in other areas, and opinions were voiced regarding the implementation of mutual visits.

Maria Benvinda Levi spoke with satisfaction about the current state of relations between Mozambique and Azerbaijan. She expressed her gratitude for the participation of Mozambican students and diplomats in programs held in Azerbaijan. She noted that Azerbaijan also provided its support to Mozambique during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network is an important platform for discussing a number of issues, and Mozambique also participates in the work of this network.

The meeting discussed the prospects for the development of relations in inter-parliamentary, educational, humanitarian, and other fields, and an exchange of views was held on other issues of mutual interest.
