Higher education in state universities in Georgia will be free for students.
“Elchi” reports that this was announced by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, in a statement to journalists.
The Prime Minister noted that within the framework of the new funding model, special mechanisms are envisaged to maintain students’ interest and motivation in education.
“A very clear statement was made regarding free higher education. For the first time in Georgia, higher education in state universities will be free for students. Certain mechanisms have been created to ensure that students do not lose motivation,” said I. Kobakhidze.
According to him, if a student fails two subjects within one semester, it indicates that they are not participating sufficiently in the educational process:
“In such a case, starting from the third semester, the volume of state funding will be reduced. The sole purpose of this is to increase students’ interest and motivation in education.”
The politician added that one of the main reasons for the high rate of economic growth in the country is the elimination of corruption. Thus, the economic indicators for the first six months of the current year have significantly exceeded the initial forecasts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF):
“Last month, economic growth was 8.6%, and for the first six months of the year, it averaged 7.9%. These figures are significantly higher than the forecasts previously announced by the IMF and other international financial institutions. Our economic system is demonstrating resilience. The fight against corruption plays an important role in the sustainability of economic growth. One of the main reasons we are maintaining the pace of economic growth is the elimination of corruption. As you know, corruption in the upper echelons has been completely eliminated, and this directly contributes to maintaining and even accelerating economic growth.”
