Colombia’s newly elected president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has announced that as part of a reduction in public spending, at least 15 embassies operating in various countries around the world, including the Colombian embassy located in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, will be closed.
“Elchi” reports that during a televised speech, de la Espriella stated that the process of closing the embassies will be carried out after he assumes office.
The diplomatic missions scheduled for closure are located in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Hungary, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Romania, Senegal, and South Africa.
The president-elect also stated that his administration will halt the process of opening a Colombian embassy in Palestine.
It should be noted that Abelardo de la Espriella won the presidential election held in June.
He is expected to officially take the oath of office and begin his duties on August 7.
