Touching upon the interest of Azerbaijani investors in the agricultural sector, the Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan considered the railway freight terminal essential for transit and economic cooperation between the parties and stated that work is underway for its establishment.
According to “Elchi”, the Iranian Ambassador to Baku, Mojtaba Damirchilu, in his meeting with the Governor of Ardabil, Masoud Emami Yegane, stated that investors from both countries are interested in investing in various fields, especially agriculture.
He noted that in this context, the issue of establishing a railway freight terminal will be followed up in Baku.
The Ambassador added that considering the commonalities between Ardabil province and the Republic of Azerbaijan, various topics in the economic, cultural, and transit spheres will be discussed with the Azerbaijani side and kept on the agenda.
Ardabil Governor Masoud Emami Yegane also touched upon the ways to develop political, economic, cultural, and transit cooperation between this province and Azerbaijan during the meeting. He said that Ardabil province has the longest common border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, and expanding economic, cultural, and transit cooperation with this country is among the province’s priorities.
The Governor of Ardabil considered the launch of the logistics railway terminal to be in the interest of both parties and added that Azerbaijan’s approach as a neighboring country and the mutual relations have always been based on friendship. According to him, with the commissioning of the railway terminal, the volume of imports and exports between the parties will increase.
It should be noted that according to the agreement reached between the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani railway line will be extended to Parsabad in Iranian territory and will be connected to Iran’s general railway network via the Ardabil–Parsabad railway in the future.
With the implementation of this project and the construction of the Parsabad terminal, the area will become a center for the collection and transportation of export and transit goods for Iran and regional countries. Ardabil province has a common border of approximately 380 kilometers with the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Bilasuvar customs crossing is considered the only active border crossing of this province.
