Spain is preparing for its third heatwave of the summer, with temperatures forecast to rise as high as 47 degrees Celsius.
elchi reports that the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced that the heatwave, caused by a “heat dome” of hot and dry air coming from Africa, will continue throughout the week.
According to forecasts, temperatures are expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius in the popular tourist destination of Malaga, 44 degrees Celsius in the southern regions, and 42 degrees Celsius in Catalonia.
It has been reported that due to the heatwave, more than 26,000 hectares of land burned on Monday alone in the country, where forest fires are occurring, and 13 people lost their lives in a fire near Bedar.
The highest temperature ever recorded in Spain was 47.6 degrees Celsius in the Guadalquivir valley on August 14, 2021.
