The authorities of the federal state of Lower Saxony have approved the expansion of the “Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH” plant in Lingen for the production of fuel assemblies (FA) based on the technologies of the Russian fuel company “TVEL”, which is part of the “Rosatom” state corporation.
“Elchi” reports that the “Die Zeit” newspaper informed about this, citing the region’s Ministry of Environment.
According to the publication, the plant in Lingen will be able to produce Russian-type fuel elements in the future. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Environment has agreed to the relevant expansion of the facility, provided that strict safety requirements are met.
The operator of the plant is “Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH” (ANF), which is part of the French “Framatome” concern. ANF plans to produce hexagonal fuel assemblies for Russian-designed nuclear power plants. For this purpose, it is intended to use the technologies of the Russian fuel company “TVEL”.
According to “Die Zeit”, the conditions set for starting production include a complete ban on the entry of employees of “TVEL” and “Rosatom” companies into the facility’s territory. Russian equipment and software must undergo independent external inspection and be isolated from the rest of the plant’s IT infrastructure. The newspaper clarifies that the fuel elements supplied from Russia are subject to one hundred percent control.
