The Pentagon is rapidly spending its budget due to the war in Iran, and funds for some key expenditure items could be exhausted within a few weeks.

According to the publication’s sources, the US military department has been forced to save on training to maintain combat readiness. WP writes that the US Navy and Air Force could completely exhaust funds allocated for a number of expenditure items within the 2026 budget by the end of July. In recent weeks, the Pentagon has requested permission from Congress to redirect $4.3 billion from training and arms procurement to “fund more urgent priorities” and is awaiting a response.
The newspaper recalls that the White House previously sent an urgent request to the US Congress for the allocation of $67 billion to fund military operations. However, the House of Representatives plans to go on recess starting July 23, which will cause the decision on the allocation of funds to be delayed by at least a few weeks. WP notes that if Congress does not approve the funding, the Pentagon will be forced to take “more painful steps.”
