The Czech government has approved a bill banning the use of mobile phones and other electronic gadgets by children in educational institutions.

The ban on the use of mobile phones, tablets, and laptops by children will apply to kindergartens, primary schools, lower grades of gymnasiums, and music schools. According to the bill, these devices will not be allowed to be used during classes, breaks, or in school cafeterias. The restriction also applies to extended-day groups and extracurricular clubs.
Exceptions to the rules will be made for children who need devices due to medical indications, such as for continuous blood sugar monitoring in cases of diabetes. Additionally, educational institutions for children will be able to authorize the use of mobile phones or tablets for educational purposes, as well as during excursions.
The bill has been sent to parliament for approval. It is expected to come into force on September 1, 2027.
