The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that two boats carrying mainly Rohingya Muslim migrants had sunk off the coast of Myanmar. The statement says: “It is estimated that more than 500 people were on board. We and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are deeply concerned by this news and call for stronger efforts to save lives.” In a joint statement, the IOM and UNHCR stated that some of the passengers were from refugee camps in Bangladesh.
