President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that US President Donald Trump played an important role in achieving a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
This was reported by the US publication “The Floridian”.
The publication writes that President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the 4th Global Media Forum in Shusha, highly appreciated the support provided by the Donald Trump Administration to the peace process.
It is noted that “Breitbart News” investigative journalist Joshua Klein asked President Ilham Aliyev what contribution Donald Trump made to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, unlike previous US Administrations, especially the Joe Biden Administration.
In his response, President Ilham Aliyev stated that Trump’s approach differed radically from his predecessors.
“President Trump’s approach was completely different. He is a peace-loving person. As he himself said, he has achieved peace in many conflicts. This is his character, his vision, and his policy. In our situation, his role was also very important,” the head of state said.
According to President Ilham Aliyev, Donald Trump played an important role in the final stage of the negotiations on the peace agreement.
“President Trump and his team joined the process and created a framework that made peace possible. They fully understood our concerns regarding peace,” the President added.
“The Floridian” writes that President Ilham Aliyev also touched upon the historic meeting held at the White House with Donald Trump and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, recalling that the peace agreement was reached at that meeting.
The publication also included the views of Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee. He stated that the main difference between Donald Trump and previous administrations in foreign policy is that world leaders believe his position is firm.
The article notes that in August 2025, Donald Trump decided to suspend the implementation of “Section 907” of the Freedom Support Act, which restricts direct US aid to Azerbaijan.
