According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the current president of Bulgaria, Iliana Yotova, will remain in office after the second round of elections.
elchi reports that with 99.95 percent of the votes counted, Yotova and vice-presidential candidate Kiril Valchev have garnered over 57 percent of the vote. This puts them 18 percentage points ahead of their rivals Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kanchev.
The vote count for the second round of elections has concluded, and the remaining uncounted protocols cannot affect the outcome. The official results of the elections will be announced no later than November 4.
Previously, Yotova called on European Union (EU) leaders to engage in dialogue with Russia during the final stage of the election campaign. “Everyone should call [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. It would be more effective if these diplomatic channels with Russia were opened on behalf of the entire EU,” the politician said at the end of October.
Iliana Yotova began her presidency of Bulgaria in January 2026, succeeding Rumen Radev. She was the first woman to hold the post of president in Bulgaria’s history.
