Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived at Ankara airport to welcome US leader Donald Trump, whose plane landed in the Turkish capital about half an hour ago.
elchi reports that Erdogan greeted Trump next to the presidential plane, after which they headed towards the terminal building while conversing. Almost all Turkish TV channels are broadcasting the welcoming ceremony live.
Usually, Erdogan does not go to the airport to welcome foreign leaders and delegates this task to other officials. This time, there was no prior information that he would personally greet Trump.
After the airport, Trump and his delegation will head to the Bestepe Presidential Complex, where the two presidents will hold bilateral talks. In the evening, Trump will join NATO leaders at an official dinner that will kick off the Alliance’s summit in Ankara.
