The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, shared a post on her social media account regarding her meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
elchi reports that she stated Turkey is a candidate country for EU membership and a strategic partner.
“Turkey is a key partner in security, migration, and energy issues, as well as a candidate country for EU membership. It was a pleasure to exchange views with President Erdogan today on further strengthening EU-Turkey relations and the importance of good neighborly relations,” the EU’s top diplomat wrote.
Kaja Kallas noted that global security challenges and regional conflicts were also discussed during the meeting:
“We also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, and preparations for the NATO summit to be held in Ankara. Turkey makes a significant contribution to the protection of NATO’s eastern flank.”
