Guterres calls on parties to the conflict in the Middle East to stop strikes

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed extreme concern over the further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, calling on the parties to fully comply with the ceasefire regime.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, at a briefing.

“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, including the strikes carried out by the US against Iran and by Iran against countries in the Persian Gulf. He has called on the parties to fully comply with the ceasefire and not to worsen the situation, as this could lead to a full-scale reignition of a conflict with unpredictable consequences,” he said.

UN Secretary-General believes that the only path to progress in resolving the situation is through genuine dialogue and negotiations. Guterres has called on the US and Iran to redouble their efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement for the sake of lasting peace and security.
