SİMA, one of the key platforms within the digital solutions ecosystem provided by AzInTelekom, currently has nearly 7 million users.
elchi reports that this was stated by Farrukh Farajullayev, Director of the Commercial Department at AzInTelecom, during his speech at the “International Finance and Banking Summit 2026” held in Baku.
According to him, although the platform initially started with the SİMA signature solution, it later expanded to include biometric identification-based solutions:
“In the financial sector, biometric identification methods are widely applied within the framework of the ‘Know Your Customer (KYC)’ approach. Banks are already using these systems at various stages.
Identification is carried out by comparing the user’s live image and document data through facial recognition technology. The effectiveness of the system mainly depends on the image quality,” he said.
Farrukh Farajullayev added that one of the main goals in the future stage is to expand payment confirmation systems via facial recognition:
“As you know, we implemented this at Azerbaijan Railways a month ago, and currently, citizens can make payments via facial recognition at 4 stations.
Furthermore, according to the plans, it is intended to further strengthen the integration with banks and digital wallets within the SİMA Pay ecosystem. This will provide users with more flexible switching between various payment tools and ensure faster execution of transactions. The SİMA Pay system, which is currently in the initial implementation phase, will gain access to a wider service network in the future,” he emphasized.
