A Super New Moon will be observed on June 15.
This was reported to elchi by the Department of Astrophysics of the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University.
It was stated that this event is characterized by the Moon being in the New Moon phase and also being located very close to the minimum distance to Earth – the perigee point.
The Moon will pass through the perigee point on June 15 at 03:19 Baku time, at which time its distance to Earth will be 357,195 km. Just a few hours later, at 06:56, the Moon will enter the New Moon phase. Since the time difference between the perigee and the New Moon is approximately 3 hours and 37 minutes, this event is called a Super New Moon in astronomy.
It should be noted that one of the closest Super New Moon events recorded to date occurred on January 22, 2023. At that time, the Moon approached the Earth to a distance of approximately 356,568 km.
