Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister elected as the new President of the UN General Assembly

Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has been elected as the President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

“Elchi” reports that 99 out of 190 members of the General Assembly have placed their trust in him.

K. Rahman’s main rival was Andreas Kakouris, the special envoy of the Cypriot Foreign Minister, who received 91 votes.

He will begin his duties in early September, when the official opening of the 81st session will take place.
