Cyberpolice conducts operation against online gambling and casino games – VIDEO

The Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has conducted an operation against online gambling and casino games.

“Elchi” reports that the Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has released information regarding this.

It was stated that 4 more people accused of the mentioned criminal acts were detained during the latest measures taken.

“In recent years, there has been a widespread increase in illegal online casino and gambling games in the global internet space. These platforms, presented on social networks with promises such as ‘easy money’, ‘bonuses’, and ‘free balance’, lure thousands of people into illegal activities.
Advertisements spread especially through social media further increase the scale of the danger. The result often ends in financial loss, psychological addiction, and restriction of liberty due to these illegal acts committed.

In many countries, law enforcement agencies have already strengthened the fight against illegal online casino networks. For this purpose, cyber-monitoring systems have been improved, and control over financial transactions has been increased. In Azerbaijan, the fight against illegal online gambling and casino games is carried out by the Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Through the latest measures taken by the cyberpolice for this purpose, 4 more people accused of the mentioned criminal acts – Səfər Səfərov, Fazil Məmmədov, Riyad Heydərli, and Nadir Soltanov – were detained. Investigations revealed that these individuals managed the admin panel for the Azerbaijani segment of online casino sites created outside the country. This allowed them to organize casino games within the country. During the search of the detainees’ residences, electronic evidence, more than 200 bank cards used in illegal casino games, mobile numbers, etc., were discovered and seized as material evidence,” the statement says.

The mentioned individuals were charged at the Main Department and held criminally liable. By court decision, pre-trial detention measures were chosen for S.Səfərov and F.Məmmədov. Relevant investigative actions are continuing regarding the criminal case initiated against the other two detained persons.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs once again called on citizens not to participate in illegal casino and gambling games: “It should not be forgotten that not only the organization of illegal casino games but also participation in those games creates legal liability.”
