Hungarian President refuses to resign

Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok has rejected the demand of new Prime Minister Péter Magyar to resign.

elchi reports that he stated this in an interview with the “Index.hu” website.

“As is clear from the above, there is currently no legal or constitutional basis that could justify my resignation. I have sworn to uphold the Constitution and the constitutional order, and this oath binds me before the ruling majority, the minority, and the entire political nation,” the politician said.

The President also stated that Magyar tried to persuade him to leave office prematurely, but Sulyok replied that he intends to continue working:

“It became clear here that the basis of our disagreement is a strong political demand for a constitutional review of the office of the President of the Republic, while I am fulfilling my duties within the framework of existing legal and constitutional norms,” he added.
