Secretary General: Inter-Parliamentary Union is proud to contribute to Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is proud to contribute to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

elchi reports that this was stated by the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, in a statement to journalists in Baku.

The Secretary General noted that the restoration of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Armenia in trade and other areas is being observed. At the same time, cooperation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia is also expanding.

“We consider the developments taking place between Azerbaijan and Armenia as an exceptional case and believe that it is important to encourage this. Because while other countries in the region are being dragged further into conflict, these two countries are moving away from conflict and progressing in the opposite direction. This was not a situation we had observed before,” Martin Chungong noted.

He pointed out that he had very productive discussions with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, the previous day: “We committed to continuing and strengthening cooperation in various fields. This includes, as I mentioned, building bridges between Azerbaijan and Armenia so that the peoples of both countries can live in peace and harmony.”

He emphasized that despite leaving his post, he is confident that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union will further strengthen: “Because my successor is also fully committed to the peace agenda we have been advancing in this region. Once again, I express my gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan – President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova – for their continued support to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. I hope that this cooperation will continue.”
