Verdict delivered for doctor accused in patient’s death at Yeni Klinika

Doctor Sevinc Məmmədova, accused of causing a patient’s death due to a technical error during surgery at Yeni Klinika, has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of restricted freedom.

“Elchi” reports that the verdict was announced at the Nizami District Court of Baku during a session presided over by Judge Mətanət Hacıyeva.

According to the verdict, she will be required to wear an electronic bracelet.

It should be noted that, according to the Nizami District Prosecutor’s Office, on May 18, 2025, Sevinc Məmmədova, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Gynecology Department of the Reproductive Health and Family Planning Center of Yeni Klinika, performed surgery on patient Günay Məmmədova, who had sought treatment at the clinic.

Subsequently, Günay Məmmədova died as a result of this surgery, and an investigation was conducted by the Nizami District Prosecutor’s Office of Baku. A criminal case was initiated under Article 314.2 (negligence resulting in serious consequences) of the Criminal Code.

The investigation determined that Sevinc Məmmədova committed a technical error during the surgery performed on Günay Məmmədova at Yeni Klinika on May 6 of last year and delayed surgical intervention to address the source of bleeding. As a result, Günay Məmmədova lost her life at the clinic on May 18.

Sevinc Məmmədova was charged as a defendant in the criminal case under the aforementioned article. The investigative body imposed a primary preventive measure of police supervision, and the court imposed an additional measure of suspension from duty.
